Raleigh has long been known as a “city in a park”. The impressive, lush environment boasts more than 10,000 acres of parkland including vast greenways for cycling, natural parks for exploring, and dog parks specially designed for your pup. It’s time to get outside for a bit of exercise, a weekend picnic, or just to see something new. These five parks are just around the corner from your home at 616 at the Village:
1. Pullen Park
Welcome to the first public park in North Carolina, founded in 1887! The beautiful 55 acres of land use to be farmland but have now been converted into one of the community’s favorite local spots. Filled with gazebos, pavilions, and shelters, it is the perfect place to host a cookout with friends and family during the warmer months. Take advantage of the aquatic center which hosts water exercise, aquatic therapy, lap swimming and more, open all year round. There is even an amusement park filled with kiddie boats, train rides, pedal boats, and a children’s amphitheater. There is so much to explore here – grab a friend and enjoy!
2. Lake Johnson Park
Treat your pup with a day filled with adventure at Lake Johnson. Only about four and a half miles from 616 at the Village, you can get to this trail-laden oasis in no time. Go for a run on three miles of paved greenway trails or hike the two miles of unpaved walkways on the east side. Looking to get in the water? Don’t worry about bringing your own gear. Rent boats, kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddleboards from May 1st through September 30th!
3. Raleigh Little Theatre Rose Garden
This is your own little piece of paradise. Escape from the world at this beautiful rose garden open to the public seven days a week and just half a mile from your doorstep at 616 at the Village. One of three accredited rose gardens in North Carolina, this truly is one of the city’s hidden treasures. Walk the grounds and enjoy the aroma of 60 rose beds surrounded by an arboretum of evergreen and deciduous trees. You can even reserve the space for small special events!
From beautiful lakes scattered throughout to inviting parks, we love Raleigh, North Carolina, just as much as you do. Check out the 616 at the Village blog for more recommendations in the area.
